The Northfield Buddhist Meditation Center Aims to:
- present the teachings of the Buddha, beginning with the practice of mindfulness meditation.
- cultivate an inclusive spiritual community.
- promote a spirit of generosity, wisdom and compassion.
We hope you’ll join us as we practice and learn together.
We are a group committed to teaching and encouraging one another in the practice of mindfulness and other forms of Buddhist meditation and wisdom. We welcome everyone, regardless of religious or cultural background.
Although most meditation centers are rooted in a particular tradition within Buddhism, the NBMC does not claim affiliation with any particular form of Buddhist practice. We welcome practitioners from all Buddhist traditions, as well as those who are simply interested in the practice of mindfulness mediation. Our dharma speakers, class topics, and library materials represent a variety of Buddhist practice and thought, including Theravadan, Zen, and Tibetan traditions.
At the same time, we find that many individuals profit from practicing within a specific tradition. For this reason, we support these practitioners with special speakers and events. We also encourage those who wish to go further in their practice to seek out a teacher, and we can provide contacts with specific teachers and resources in the Twin Cities area.
We offer a variety of meditation times and programs to support the community in the practice of mindfulness.
- Weekdays, M-F, 5:30-6 pm
- Sundays, 9:30 – 10:00 am
Connect with other members via Zoom by clicking this Zoom link.
(Email contact@northfieldmeditation.org if you experience any issues)
We also have highly-trained, monthly, guest dharma teachers from across the country, usually on the first Sunday morning of each month (and sometimes on Thursday evenings) following meditation. Please check this page or the Events Page for more information.
In addition, we offer these other ways to deepen your practice or learn more about Buddhist meditation types and philosophy:
- Scheduled Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation classes (see Community Groups page).
- A regular schedule of Community Groups
- A lending library of books, periodicals, tapes, and compact discs, along with Other Resources online
Generosity: Northfield Buddhist Meditation Center is possible because of the generosity of our community. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so online, or by dropping cash or check in the dāna basket at the Center.
