Anatta: The Buddhist Concept of Non-Self Class by Mark Nunberg
A 4-part class led by Mark Nunberg, supporting teacher to NBMC
Final class will meet on Tuesday, December 16th. This was rescheduled from November due to weather.
This class will look into the Buddha’s teachings on Anatta — a strategy for releasing the heart from self-centered clinging. Anatta, sometimes translated at “not-self,” is one of the three characteristics that mark all conditioned experience. Insight into the conditioned nature of phenomena leads to the mind letting go of its deep habits of attachment and identification. We often live our lives through the lens of self-centered fear and longing. We are so busy doing this that we miss how much stress and suffering is involved in seeking happiness this way. As we learn to see more clearly, we discover that we can simply let things be. Each class will include a talk, discussions, and guided sitting time.
Mark Nunberg is the founder and Guiding Teacher at Common Ground Meditation Center in Minneapolis. Mark began mindfulness practice in 1982 and has been teaching meditation since 1990. Mark has studied with both Asian and Western teachers. His primary teachers have been Joseph Goldstein and the other Insight Meditation teachers who teach at the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Massachusetts. Mark continues to be a devoted student of Buddhist mindfulness practice.
